A good place to start in APRS is  Here you can watch all the activity going on the map. There are several club members who have expertise in this area, specifically Bill W1GTT. He has contributed to the ARRL VHF Digital Handbook.

Did you know if you operate D-Star you can connect a gps to your radio and it will transmit your location through a program called DPRS to the APRS system automatically.

Great post Harrison!

I have tons of info and experience with the byonics TT4 and interfaces to Motorola equipment as well as the AvMap Geosat 5.
