With digital voice capable radios really coming to light amongst the amateur community, and D-STAR being the premier new digital voice technology, does anyone use P25 capable equipment? If so, what's your thoughts on P25? If a ham mixed-mode P25 repeater came online in the area, would there be good interest in using it?

Hi Troy,

This is a very intriguing idea. I would like to learn more about it. We are currently considering upgrading the 97 repeater and this might be a good option to consider. I will pass this on and see if we can get some interest going.

Check out the new Yeasu DR-1 repeater just coming out in November 2013. Looks very interesting. Dual Band, Digital C4FM, Analog, and the ability to cross over both modes automatically. I dont see any pricing yet though.

SCRAMS has ordered a New YAESU DR-1X System Fusion Repeater to replace the 146.97 repeater. It is not actually P25 but it a close cousin. It uses C4FM FDMA technology. The new repeater is expected to be shipped in mid April 2015. This will allow hams to experiment with this new digital mode while maintaining the ability to still use analog radios.

Gigiparts is having a sale on the Yaesu FT 1DR HD handheld radio for only $289.00. This is a dualband ht with built in GPS and APRS capabilities.

When this is ready to install would you let us know? I for one would like to be there and learn a bit about how these get programmed and installed.
